Hair up-do's...

To begin this up do, I prepped the hair by crimping the under layer of the top section of hair from the roots to half way down, leaving the ends straight like shown in the images above. This is to create the volume and structure on top of the head in order to create the large rounded shape. To create the twist at the back of the hair, I simply sectioned the bottom layer of hair into two halves and folded one half right across pinning it securely down to the head. Then using the same technique I folded over the other section of hair twisting it slightly when pinning it to create this folded silhouetted shape.

I then went onto experiment with using the same shape and texture, but with a different  and more contemporary approach to the design by adding a French Plait to the back

Adding decoration to the hair can transform a look into a completely different style. This is so handy as it means that you can wear the same hair do for a few days, making it look different just by adding something so simple as a scarf.

                                                                                               Gems
  • If you want to add gems to the hair for a shoot, they can simply be just placed onto the hair in the places that you want them as long as the model isn't making much movement for them to drop or be hidden in the hair style.

  • You can also fix gems in with Vaseline and a light spray of hair spray over the top for a short term/temporary decoration also used for shoots.
  • Gems can be stuck to the hair with a cosmetic adhesive, although only do this if you really have to as the glue will be a nightmare to remove and can take up to a few days to be completely gone.
  • If the model is going to be moving around a lot while wearing the gems in her hair, depending on the style of the hair, you can buy thin hair nets which contain gems stuck around it which can finish off the hair style nicely for dancers etc.

How to create an accessorised bun:
  • Before starting, you can create texture in the hair if you want to create that look, or you can leave the hair normal (either will work)
  • Firstly brush hair back from the top of the temples and leave the section of hair below the temple down.
  • Pull the lower section of hair back, and curl it upwards to create a ring at the back of the head. Fix this down with grips and pins to secure it.
  • Thread the material/scarf through the ring and tie it up at the front of the forehead
  • Cover over the ring of hair to hide the gaps with other bits of hair, teasing this with the teasing comb.
  • Section the top layer of hair into two halves and twist or plait back over the material, fixing the hair into the bun at the back to create a neat and look.
